Description

The former Methodist chapel, now known as Coupe Bradbury Solicitors, was built in 1846 and is located on Bath Street in Lytham St Annes. This relatively small building is constructed of red brick in Flemish bond, with sandstone dressings and a slate roof, and is designed in a debased classical style.

The chapel is two storeys high and has three symmetrical bays. It features giant brick pilasters with stone capitals, a deep stone plinth, a plain stone frieze, a moulded cornice, and a brick parapet that has a central upstand containing a rectangular stone plaque inscribed with "MDCCCXLVI". The central bay includes a square-headed doorway accessed by steps, which has a moulded architrave and a modillioned cornice on consoles, along with altered double doors and a four-pane overlight. The outer bays are slightly narrower and contain 12-pane sashed windows with architraves that also have modillioned cornices and shallow pediments.

On the upper floor, there are four small square windows with stone architraves, with the two central windows coupled together. The side walls have 12-pane sashed windows at the ground floor with stone architraves linked by a prominent sill-band, while the first floor has smaller windows with altered glazing. The rear gable wall features a lean-to extension.

The interior of the building has been altered by partitioning. Historically, this was the first Nonconformist chapel built in Lytham, which was later superseded by the Park Street Chapel in 1868. The chapel is part of a group with the buildings at Nos 2 to 10 opposite and Nos 1 and 3 to the right.
