Description
A pair of small town houses dating from approximately 1850 to 1860, and subsequently altered. The houses are built of red brick in a Flemish bond pattern, with sandstone dressings, and have composition tile and slate roofs. They form a single-fronted hall-and-parlour pair, incorporating a coupled rear extension. The houses have two storeys and originally had two and two windows respectively. Remnants of a swept-roof verandah remain, supported by a brick corbel table resting on three pairs of consoles. A pair of swept, lead-clad verandah canopies are present, with restored fretted fringes, although the right-hand half supports a geometrical trellised porch to number 3. Large, rectangular wooden bay windows with matching roof coverings and fretted fringes are located to either side of the porch. The first floor windows are small, segmental-headed, with plain surrounds and altered glazing. Gable-end chimneys are present, with the right-hand chimney adjoined to number 9 Bath Street. The buildings are part of a group that includes numbers 2 to 10 on the opposite side of the street, the former Methodist chapel to the left, and number 9 Bath Street to the right.
