Description

Church Lodge to Lytham Hall is an early to mid-18th century entrance lodge, originally part of Lytham Hall Park and now a private dwelling. It has undergone alterations since its original construction. The lodge is built of pebble walls with red brick quoining and dressings, topped with a patterned slate roof featuring projecting eaves and verges, and a central chimney stack. The building’s design resembles a cross, with a main range running parallel to the road and a short drive, and shorter side wings at right angles. It is a single-storey structure, with low attics in the wings. The gabled end facing the drive has a small canted bay; the former doorway in the centre has been altered into a window, flanked by single-light windows. One window with brick quoining, a raised sill, and a chamfered lintel is on each of the side walls of this end. Windows matching this design are also found in the gables of the side wings and in the attic spaces above them. The rear range has two similar windows, with a 20th-century extension at the west end of the north side. The chimney at the junction of the roof ridges consists of two short stages, featuring pebble panels in the lower stage, small sunk panels in the upper stage, and a cavetto-moulded cap. The interior has not been inspected.
