Description
The war memorial, built in the early 1920s, features a limestone pedestal and statue, with iron railings set on a sandstone base. The memorial has a square plinth and a tapered pedestal adorned with recessed panels and a moulded cornice. Atop the pedestal stands a statue of a soldier in a cap, positioned with his hands resting on the butt of a rifle, which is pointed to the ground. The east panel of the pedestal is inscribed with the words "IN MEMORY OF THE MEDLAR AND WESHAM HEROES WHO FELL IN THE WORLD WARS 1914-1918 AND 1939-1945 THEIR NAMES SHALL LIVE FOR EVER," while the other three panels display the names of the fallen. Surrounding the memorial is a small elongated enclosure with rounded ends, featuring simple iron railings. Each of the long sides of the enclosure has three ornamental panels with heart shapes at the top. A Victorian iron gaslamp standard, which has an altered lantern, is located inside the enclosure but is not included as part of the memorial.
