Description

Bradkirk Hall Farmhouse is a farmhouse dated 1764, as indicated on the lintel of the door. It is constructed of brick with stone dressings and has a slate roof. The building features a double-depth, three-bay, four-room plan and stands two storeys tall with a symmetrical façade. The central doorway has a large lintel with a prominent keystone inscribed "E:H 1764" (representing Edward Hurst) and is set in a round-headed recess. There are four windows on the ground floor and five above, all of which are 12-pane sashes with stone sills and gauged brick heads. The farmhouse also has a coved cornice, stone gable copings with small kneelers, and gable chimneys.

On the left return wall, there is one window on the ground floor and two above (one of which is at least partially covered by ivy), along with a simplified Venetian attic window with blocked outer lights. The rear wall is stepped, with the first bay set back and likely blind (though covered by creeper), and features a door in the re-entrant. The rear wall also has three-light windows with chamfered flush mullions, three vertically-aligned stairlights in the centre, and one on each floor of the third bay, the latter partly obscured by an overlapping lower two-storey service extension.

Inside, the farmhouse includes a brick-vaulted cellar, original fireplaces in the third bay with corbelled jambs, deep lintels, and moulded cornices. The doors and doorcases throughout have fielded panels, and there is a full-height staircase with an open string, three balusters per tread, and a ramped handrail. The attic features a slatted door for ventilation of the storage room and has unusual roof trusses with elbowed struts.
