Description

This is a row of seven cottages, dating to the late 18th century, reportedly built in 1776. Originally part of a larger group that included cottages to the rear, which have since been demolished, the row now comprises six dwellings. The cottages are constructed of coursed sandstone, with Rose Cottage having scored render. They have slate roofs and brick ridge chimneys. The design is double pile, with each cottage having a single frontage. There are through-passages between No. 3 and Rose Cottage, and between No. 11 (Garden Cottage) and Wyldon. Each cottage has a simple stone doorcase, although Rose Cottage has a wooden glazed porch. The windows are mostly sash windows, with one window on each floor, except at Rose Cottage (No. 25) and Wyldon, which have been altered. The cottages are listed for their group value, with Nos. 1 and 1A Waterhouse Green adjoining them at the left end.
