Description

The Lord Nelson Public House is a public house that dates from the 17th and 18th centuries, with a 19th-century addition at the rear. It features a stuccoed brick exterior on a plinth and has stone slate roofs. The main range, built in the 18th century, is two storeys high and has two bays that are almost symmetrical. It includes gable chimneys, a first-floor band, and a doorway with a monopitched canopy. There are two 4-pane sash windows on each floor, and above the doorway, there is a painted portrait of Nelson along with a modern name sign.

To the right, the gable of the 17th-century section forms a receding wing, which has a 4-pane sash window at ground level and a larger 8-pane sash window above. The gable chimney of the 18th-century part is connected to the interior side-wall chimney of the wing. The left gable features a stairlight and an attic window next to the corbel of the chimney, and beyond this, there is a one-bay 19th-century rear wing. Attached to the east side of the rear wing is a pump marked "TN 1869."

Inside, the 17th-century wing has a front room with a side-wall inglenook that includes a chamfered bressummer, which contains a 19th-century oven-and-boiler range with a panelled surround. There is also a longitudinal beam with a stopped rounded chamfer. The rear room, which has been altered to serve as toilets, features a beam with a deep chamfer, stopped in the centre where a former partition used to be.
