Description

Hill Top Farm South is a probable 18th-century farmhouse with a barn integrated under the same roof, altered and now used as a house. It is built of coursed rubble with quoins, topped with a slate roof featuring stone gable copings. A stone chimney stands at the right gable and another at the rear of the first bay. The building consists of two bays, with a two-storey outshut added to the rear of the second bay. A gabled porch, featuring a studded outer door, is situated at the junction of the bays. Evidence of a vertical joint-line is visible above the porch. Two square ground-floor windows are on the left side, one with a flush stone mullion, and above, a large modern casement. Similar casements with jambs of what were originally lower windows are on each floor to the right. The two-bay barn projects forward, with a recessed double doorway in the second bay, featuring a cheek that angles with the front of the house. The rear elevation includes two small square sashed windows with glazing bars in the first bay, and a three-light casement at the first floor of the outshut. The ground floor of the outshut is now covered by a conservatory, which incorporates an old wall and doorway. Internally, the first bay contains a large stone fireplace with shouldered jambs and a substantial rectangular lintel.
