HOGHTON PRESTON ROAD SD 62 NW 2/147 Ward's o'th' Hill Farmhouse 17.4.67 (Formerly listed as Ward o' th' Hill Farmhouse with stables or Granary buildings adjoining) II
Farmhouse and attached granary. Probably early C18, altered. Squared sandstone in graduated courses, with quoins, slate roof on 2 levels with brick chimneys at the gables of the higher part. Rectangular 3-bay plan. Two storeys, but 1st bay lower and roof of steeper pitch; entrance by plain doorway in 1st bay (next to junction), modern brick lean-to porch to 2nd bay (lst of higher part); chamfered mullion windows: 2 lights at 1st floor of 1st bay, two of 3 lights at ground floor of 3rd bay, altered window at ground floor of 2nd bay and 1st floor of 3rd bay. Rear: 1st bay has one formerly-mullioned 3-light window on each floor, now 2-light casements, and a small 2-light stairlight window, the higher part has 2 windows on each floor, one at ground floor altered and enlarged and others all 3-lights with chamfered mullions. Granary at north end, set back, lower, with stone steps to loft door. Interior: slim beams with small chamfer; fielded panel doors.
