Description

The rotunda bellcote, dated 1776, is located approximately 30 metres south of the Church of St. Barnabas on Heapey Church Lane. It was formerly part of the grounds of Prospect House in Wheelton and is likely originally associated with Heapey Parish Church. The structure is made of dressed gritstone and features a square rusticated base supported by six squat Tuscan columns. It has a banded frieze, a moulded cornice, and a domed roof. The frieze is inscribed with the words "JAMES SCOTSON CHURCH WARDEN 1776."
