Description

White House Farmhouse is a farmhouse dated 1680, located on North Road in Bretherton. The building is constructed of brick with some stone quoins, featuring a combination of whitewashed and rendered surfaces, and has a slate roof. It has a three-bay baffle-entry plan with a projecting porch. The farmhouse is two storeys high, with the eaves raised.

The two-storey gabled porch aligns with the ridge chimney at the junction of the second and third bays. It has a round-headed entrance arch and a rectangular datestone above inscribed with the year 1680. There are slit peepholes on each side of the porch, stone side benches, and an original batten and board door that includes studded battens, ornamental iron strap hinges, a pull-handle, and a wooden sneck latch.

On the ground floor, there are three casement windows, with the segmental-headed windows featuring two, two, and three lights, while the upper floor has three casement windows, all with two lights. The right gable displays three brick labels at the first floor, with the center label stepped up. The rear of the building has a damaged label above a blocked fire window. There are chimneys located at the left gable and on the ridge.

The interior has not been inspected but is believed to contain an inglenook with a heck and moulded bressummer, two moulded longitudinal beams, and two service room doors.
