Description
Blackamoor Hall is a farmhouse, now a house, likely dating from the early 17th century and altered over time. It is constructed of handmade brick with stone quoins at the ground floor and features a slate roof. The building has a T-plan layout, consisting of two bays with a two-bay crosswing at the west end.
It stands two storeys high and retains some evidence of a diaper pattern made with blue headers, with one lozenge remaining on the first floor of the north side. Although all openings have been altered, there are breaks in the brick coursing that align with a ridge chimney at the junction of the bays, indicating a former doorway. Each side of the chimney has an altered three-light casement, with the right one incorporating remnants of a former brick mullion window. There are two smaller altered casements on the first floor, with the lozenge situated between them. The gable of the wing to the right features a segmental-headed stairlight and one altered window on each floor. The right return wall of this wing has a tall projecting chimney stack, with the outline of a small former two or three-light window at the front and a square window outline at the rear, both located under the eaves. The left gable end has the lintel of a former door near the front corner. The rear of the building has all altered openings, including a modern porch at the first bay and French windows in the wing.
Inside, the structure has been altered, but the second bay and both rooms in the wing feature beams with deep rounded chamfers and cyma stops. Modern staircases have been added in the front bay of the wing and at the end wall of the first bay, which are said to be in their original positions.
