Description
The Rectory, dating from around 1840, serves the parish church of St. John Evangelist. It is constructed of red brick with sandstone dressings and features a slate roof with ornamental bargeboards. The building has a double-depth layout with three bays and stands two storeys tall, designed in a simple Jacobean style with a symmetrical façade. The entrance includes a Tudor-arched doorway with a moulded sandstone surround, an arched fanlight with hollow spandrels, and a hoodmould. There are two 12-pane sash windows at the ground floor and three above, all with hoodmoulds. The left gable wall has three windows on each floor and one in the attic, similar to those at the front, except for a canted bay window at the rear of the ground floor. The central windows on this wall are false, being fully glazed but backed by a wall painted black. The Rectory is listed for its group value only.
