Description

This barn, located approximately 60 metres south of Shaw Place, dates back to 1705. It is constructed of coursed sandstone and has a slate roof. The barn features a rectangular plan with six bays, a plinth, and a stone band.

The fourth bay includes a wagon doorway with a rectangular porch, and the lintel is inscribed with the letter "W". To the right of this, there is a modern brick outshut marked "H H". The second bay originally had a doorway with chamfered jambs and a lintel, which has been altered into a window. There are also small windows with chamfered cases on each side at ground level, along with an oval bullseye window above these, and a square doorway situated between them.

On the left gable, there are three ground floor doorways with chamfered jambs and a lintel, although the outer two are blocked. The first floor has three oval bullseye windows and a circular owl hole at the apex. The right gable has been altered and now features a large square opening at ground level, flanked by doorways with plain lintels that have both been converted into windows. There is a bullseye window on the first floor, flanked by round-headed windows that are all blocked, and a square doorway in the gable above. The rear wall is covered by a modern cowshed.

Inside, the barn was originally lofted at both ends but is now open. It has cambered wooden lintels over the openings and retains original king post roof trusses.
