Description

Holden Farmhouse is a mid-17th century farmhouse that is currently undergoing renovation to become a house. It is constructed from coursed sandstone rubble with quoins, although the roof was stripped at the time of the survey. The building has an L-shaped, two-bay end baffle-entry plan and features a full-height outshut at the rear. It stands two storeys tall and has a large single-storey porch on the right side, which has a monopitched roof and a doorway with a plain surround. The inner doorway has a chamfered surround.

The farmhouse has recessed hollow-chamfered mullion windows with hoodmoulds on both floors, featuring five and six lights on the ground floor and three, four, and two lights on the first floor, although some mullions are missing. There are chimneys at both gable ends. The left gable end has a small addition that is flush with the front wall, containing two openings on each floor towards the rear, one of which has a mullion. The right gable wall has a small fire window towards the rear. The rear of the second bay includes a four-light mullioned window without a hoodmould, which is missing two mullions, along with a smaller window above it. The rear outshut was mostly demolished at the time of the survey.

Inside, there is a large stone heck with a peephole leading to a former inglenook, with beams jointed in place of a former bressummer. There is an 18th-century stone fireplace with moulded corbelled jambs, and a relocated staircase against the rear wall of the house part.
