Description

St Mary's Presbytery and part of the Franciscan Convent, along with an attached garden wall, is a pair of town houses dating from the early 19th century, with a later 19th-century addition on the left. The buildings are primarily constructed of sandstone ashlar and feature a slate roof. The layout is double-depth, with the presbytery on the left being double-fronted and the convent single-fronted.

The structure is two storeys tall and has a total of five windows across the front, with the first bay slightly set back and a two-window extension to the left. Architectural details include a plinth, rusticated quoins, a moulded gutter cornice, and coped gables. The central doorway of the presbytery and the right-side doorway of the convent both have moulded architraves, cornices supported by scrolled consoles, and glazed and panelled doors with overlights. The windows are simply framed, with the presbytery's windows being sashed without glazing bars, while the convent's windows are now top-hung casements.

The left addition is made of coursed squared sandstone, set back from the main structure, and features one window on each floor to the left and a mid-level window to the right, all sashed without glazing bars. There are gable and ridge chimneys present.

The garden wall, which encloses the front and south sides of the long front gardens, is constructed of coursed squared sandstone with rounded coping. It stands approximately 2 meters high at the front and 3 meters high along most of the south side, with a ramp at the junction.
