Description

BURNLEY

SD8432SE HOLMES STREET 906-1/21/75 (South side (off)) 28/07/92 Pentridge Mill Chimney

II

Cotton mill chimney. Mid to later C19. Coursed squared sandstone. Circular type with beehive base, complete with cornice and oversail. One of the few chimneys in the town surviving in complete condition; a conspicuous feature of the Finsley Gate locality, forming a particularly striking visual relationship with the River Calder on the north bank of which it stands, and the bed of which is paved.
