Description

Dexter Paints, formerly known as Habergham Eaves School, is a parish school that has been converted into a paint warehouse. It was built in 1840, as indicated by the date on the center gable, and has undergone alterations. The building is constructed of coursed squared sandstone, although the main range is now rendered and painted, and it features a slate roof. Designed in the Tudor style, the structure has an E-plan layout, consisting of a long main range with a projecting gabled porch and gabled wings.

The building is primarily single storey, except for the left (north) wing, which has two storeys. The facade displays a pattern of windows in a 1:3:1:3:1 arrangement. The porch is notable for its large mullioned window, which contains three Tudor-arched lights and is topped with a hood-mould. Above this window is a prominent stone plaque that reads "HABARGHAM EAVES / PAROCHIAL SCHOOL / Erected / A.D.1840". The left side wall of the porch features a Tudor-arched doorway. Each of the main ranges on the left and right sides has three tall two-light mullioned windows.

The gables of both wings also have windows similar to the porch. The two-storey left wing includes a two-light window on the first floor, with a chamfered sillband that extends around to the four-window left return facing Sandygate. This return has square-headed mullioned windows with three lights on the ground floor and two lights above, all featuring chamfered surrounds. The ground floor windows have a sillband and a dripband, while the right-hand return of the right wing has two two-light flush windows. The rear of the building has been altered. The interior was not inspected.

The front areas on each side of the porch are enclosed by tall spear-headed bar railings set on stone plinths, with gateways at the outer ends, although the right-hand gate is missing.
