Description
The stables, located approximately 15 meters north of Royle Hall Farmhouse, are a stable block likely built in the late 18th century and have been altered since. They are constructed from watershot coursed sandstone rubble with quoins and feature a stone slate roof. The building has a rectangular plan oriented on an east-west axis and stands two stories tall.
On the ground floor, there are three openings that were originally symmetrical. The design includes a low chamfered plinth, raised rusticated quoins, a sillband at ground floor level, and stone gutter brackets. The central doorway has plain monolith jambs, a massive rectangular lintel, and a small cornice. To the right of the doorway is a stepped three-light mullioned window, while to the left is an inserted garage doorway, which likely replaced a similar window. The first floor has a circular pitching hole in the center, surrounded by a raised plain frame, and the glazing is slightly damaged.
Inside, the ground floor is unpartitioned and contains stalls. This stable block forms a group with Royle Hall Farmhouse, which is located approximately 15 meters to the south.
