Description

This is a barn and lean-to stable located approximately 15 metres north of Craggs Farmhouse, dated 'WRM/1777' for the barn, with the stable added later. The structure is built from coursed rubble sandstone and has a stone slate roof. The barn is a tall single-storey building with three bays, oriented north-south, and features a stable at the north-west corner.

On the west side, there are large quoins and a central waggon entrance with a segmental arch that has a raised and dated keystone. The entrance is flanked by recessed, harr-hung boarded doors, and there is a small inserted casement window to the right. The lean-to stable on the left has a stable door and a casement window under a wooden lintel, with a catslide roof and some collapsed walling above. The rear of the barn has an opposed waggon entrance with a matching arch. The right return features an original doorway with an ashlar surround and an extended quoin forming the lintel, along with a similar door located within the archway recess.

Inside, the barn contains two early pattern-book king-post trusses and four purlins on each roof slope. The derelict buildings adjoining the south gable are not of special interest and are included for group value only.
