Description
Nos. 1 and 3 Moor Lane are houses built in the late 1840s for the Shuttleworth family of Gawthorpe Hall, and are believed to have been designed by Sir Charles Barry. The buildings are constructed from rendered rubble with ashlar dressings and stand two storeys tall. They have a roughly symmetrical appearance, featuring a single bay that projects at the center with coped gables on moulded kneelers, while the one-bay side wings are canted back to follow the curve of the road. The center and the left-hand wing (No. 1) have late 19th-century shop fronts. Other windows are framed with surrounds that have jambs made of alternately longer and shorter stones. A moulded eaves cornice supports the gutter. No. 3 is distinguished by its ashlar chimney stack, which has tall octagonal Jacobethan pots.
