Description

This is a farmhouse with an attached barn, dating from around 1700, located approximately 50 metres east of New Barn Farmhouse. The building is constructed from coursed sandstone rubble, featuring some quoins, and has a stone slate roof with a ridge chimney on the house. It has an unusual T-shaped plan, with the barn forming a large west crosswing that embraces the west gable of the south-facing house.

The house is a three-bay, two-storey structure, with the third bay featuring a front extension from the 18th century. It has recessed-moulded mullion windows with four and five lights; the first window is missing one mullion, and the second has been altered to create a doorway in the third to fifth lights. On the first floor, there are two two-light windows, which are now crossed by a tin roof that bridges between the barn and the extension. Inside, the house has boxed and chamfered beams, along with two 18th-century fireplaces.

The barn is a six-bay H-plan structure facing west, featuring a set-back wagon entrance in the third bay, and continuous front outshuts in the first and second, as well as the fourth to sixth bays. These outshuts were later extended forward, with the roof carried down over them, and there is a similar rear outshut for the first and second bays. The north gable wall has three windows that may have originally been doors. Inside the barn, there are massive stone piers that create bays for the original western outshuts, along with five kingpost roof trusses that have angle struts and four pairs of purlins.
