Description

Old Oak Cottage is a cottage that likely dates from the early 18th century, with a date of 1739 noted in a 20th-century stained glass window. The building has been altered and recently renovated. It is constructed of coursed sandstone rubble with quoins and features a stone slate roof. The cottage has a double-depth, double-fronted plan and stands two low storeys high with two symmetrical windows. There is a central doorway with a plain surround, leading to a 20th-century glazed and panelled door. The ground floor has vertical-rectangular windows, while the upper floor has square windows, all with raised sills and plain surrounds. These windows have been replaced with 20th-century top-hung casements that imitate four-pane sashes. The cottage has a ridge chimney and a corniced gable chimney on the left side. Both gable walls have windows close to the rear at ground level, with the right-hand gable featuring a 20th-century stained glass window that is lettered "1739." The interior has not been inspected. The rear wall of Old Oak Cottage is covered by the rear of Back Oak Cottage, and together they form a group.
