ATHERTON BOLTON OLD ROAD (south side) Gates, piers and front railings to north side of Chowbent Unitarian Chapel (formerly listed as GatePiers at entrance N.W. of grounds of Chowbent Chapel)

Gates, piers and railings. Stone and iron respectively. c.1721 and mid C19. The ornate cast iron gates are supported on boldly rusticated square piers which have moulded bases and capitals and are topped by decorative urns. Cast-iron railings sweep round on either side to meet C19 piers which have moulded caps and Gothic panels. Plain rails and another set of piers complete the Bolton Old Road side of the graveyard.
