Description
Collier Brook Farmhouse is a former farmhouse, now a house, dating from the early to mid 18th century with later alterations. The building is constructed of stone, rendered throughout, and possibly includes parts of a timber-framed structure, topped with a stone slab roof. It features a three-unit plan with a storeyed outshut at the rear that contains services and stairs, all under a catslide roof. The farmhouse is two storeys high and has a regular three-window front elevation, complete with a plinth, plot band, cornice band, and wedge lintels. There is a canted bay window at the centre, and a 20th-century top-opening casement. The structure includes one ridge stack and two end stacks. To the left, there is a conservatory with a hipped roof, while the right side has an original opening for an attic window. A timber open porch with a gabled roof leads to a round-headed doorway that features a fanlight above and a door with fielded panels below. The rear of the building has been largely re-fenestrated in the 20th century.
Inside, the farmhouse boasts an early to mid 18th-century dog-leg stair with panelled newels and turned balusters. It has pegged door surrounds and six-panelled doors, along with boxed ceiling beams in the ground-floor rooms. The internal walls are supported by large posts and rails with wattle and daub infill, which extend through the roof space. The roof structure is a side-purlin design, and there are some modest 18th and 19th-century door furniture and fire surrounds. The farmhouse is listed primarily for its 18th-century plan and fittings.
