Description

Hartshead Green Farmhouse and Cottage is a late 17th-century farmhouse that was altered and extended in the 18th century. It is constructed of hammer-dressed stone with a slate roof. The building has an irregular plan, originally comprising three bays and two storeys, with a wing added to the front right in the early 18th century. The ground floor of the third bay represents the earliest part of the farmhouse, featuring a two-light fire window and four-light double-chamfered mullion windows, where one and two mullions have been removed. The first floor was added later with a recessed, flat-faced mullion window. Additions to the left feature recessed flat-faced mullioned windows and a door in a lower linking passage. The front wing incorporates a six-light double-chamfered mullion window on the ground floor and a three-light chamfered window on the first floor. It is gabled and has a 20th-century lean-to against the right return. A variety of windows are also present on the rear elevation.
