Description
Four Winds is a house built in the late 18th century, constructed from hammer-dressed stone and topped with a graduated stone slate roof. It features a single-depth plan with four bays and two storeys, along with later additions to the left and rear. The building has a weathered plinth, a plain band at the first floor, a modillion eaves cornice, and raised quoins. The entrance is located in the second bay and is framed by a pedimented Gibbs door surround. Above the door, there is a window with an architrave surround, a keystone, and a flat hood. Each floor is fitted with three 2-light flat-faced stone mullion windows, and gable chimney stacks are present. The eaves cornice notably breaks forward above the quoins. The combination of polite architectural elements with an otherwise vernacular style creates a pleasing effect. The interior is reported to contain hewn beams, a turned baluster stair with a moulded rail, and six fielded panel doors.
