Description

Three cottages, located at 9, 11, and 13 Anthony Street, Mossley, were built in the early 19th century. They are constructed of hammer-dressed stone with a roof of graduated stone slates and 20th-century tiles. Each cottage has a double-depth plan and three storeys. Numbers 9 and 11 are single-bay wide, while number 13 is two bays wide. The west elevation originally featured a three- or four-light recessed flat-faced mullion window on the ground floor of each bay, and a three-light window on the first floor. Some mullions have been removed, and a porch has been added to number 11. The doorways have square-cut surrounds. There are three ridge chimney stacks, one of which is brick. The east side of the cottages has similar door surrounds and window openings. The group value of these cottages lies in their cohesive design and contribution to the streetscape.
