Description

The Manchester and Ashton-under-Lyne Canal Bridge Number 16 is a footbridge built in 1838, as indicated by the datestone. It is constructed from rock-faced and hammer-dressed stone and features a segmental arch. The bridge has large vertically set slabs that form the parapet walls, which rise above a band, and it is supported by square terminating piers. Locally, it is known as the Camel's Hump or Jamaica Bridge.
