Description
The Black Rock Bridge is an accommodation bridge located at the tail of lock 10W on the Huddersfield Narrow Canal, built between 1795 and 1798. It is likely designed by Benjamin Outram. The bridge features a hump-backed shape made of rustic coursed stone and has a single elliptical arch with voussoirs. On the west side, there is a stone band at road level and a slightly cambered parapet topped with half round stone copings. The bridge is finished with stone piers that have curved flat capstones. On the east side, which faces the lock, there is a band above a string course of thin stone, and the arch springs from the walls of the lock chamber.
