Description
Hydebank Farmhouse is a 17th-century farmhouse built in 1655 for Robert and Anne Hyde, with a later wing added on the left side. The building is constructed from roughly coursed dressed stone, featuring red sandstone quoins, brick stacks, and slate roofs. Originally designed as a two-room, two-storey structure with an attic, it had a rear wing that was demolished and later rebuilt as a separate house in the 19th century.
The farmhouse has three bays, with the first bay likely dating from the 19th century. This bay projects from the main structure, has a separate roof, and includes two 20th-century bow windows along with a Victorian sash window and stack on the left gable. The second bay features a single-storey lean-to porch, while the third bay is notable for its large chimney stack, which has red sandstone quoins, heavy weatherings, and a brick shaft. A moulded stone kneeler is present as well. The windows on the right gable have all been replaced, while the left gable contains three and five-light chamfered mullion windows.
Inside, the farmhouse retains a three-light chamfered mullion window with original leaded lights, an inglenook fireplace with a chamfered stone surround and a large lintel, and chamfered beams with stepped stops on the ground floor and run-out stops on the first floor. The attic features a truss with diagonal struts, and there is a timber-framed partition that runs the full height of the house.
