Description
The outbuildings at Lower Danbank Farm are mid-18th century farm buildings constructed from Flemish bond brick set on a red sandstone plinth, featuring corrugated asbestos and slate roofs. The buildings form an L-shaped range, with a barn located in the west range and stables, a shippon, and haylofts in the north range.
The west range includes opposed cart entries with semi-elliptical brick arches, which are flanked by square piers that once supported a catslide canopy. There are rows of tall vents on two levels, and each end of the range has a crow-stepped gable. The north range features five doors, one of which is blocked, with segmental brick arch heads or stone lintels. It also has a first-floor band and two loft hatches. The first bay of this range has a crow-stepped gable at both the front and rear, a lean-to structure on the left, and a stone-built wing that predates the rest of the buildings. This wing has a chamfered door opening with a shaped lintel. The roof construction of the west range was lost in a fire but has since been replaced.
