Description
Top o' the Green Farmhouse is a house dating from the 16th century, although it has undergone significant alterations. The building is timber-framed with brick nogging, a brick stack, and a roof made of graduated stone slates. It consists of four bays and has two storeys, along with a single-storey addition from the 20th century on the left and rear sides.
The first bay, which may have originally served as a granary, and the fourth bay were added to the second and third bays. These two central bays show evidence of construction from various periods, including a raised eaves line. The first bay features a recessed porch and has two casement windows on the first floor. The second bay displays square-panel framing with diagonal bracing. The third and fourth bays include a 20th-century bow window, a three-light casement window, and a porch with a pitched roof. The house has a ridge chimney stack.
Inside, the farmhouse has a closed cruck frame with a collar tie and a truss with curved principals, and much of the internal framing remains intact.
