Description
The building is a barn, now functioning as a clubhouse, dating from the 16th century. It features cruck frames with 19th and 20th century brick, stone, and render walls, topped with an asbestos roof. The barn has five bays and includes several one and two-storey additions on three sides. The exterior shows little of the original fabric, which is mostly from the 20th century. Inside, there are four nearly complete closed cruck trusses with cruck spurs and collar yokes. The two outer crucks have collar beams, while the inner ones do not; these inner crucks are made of unusually large timbers and indicate the presence of two-storey ends to a central full-height threshing floor. Through purlins support the original roof rafters. This barn served Bredbury Hall, which was built in 1570 and may have been constructed around the same time.
