Description
The Memorial Fountain to Robert Ockleston is a water fountain and drinking trough located in Queens Gardens, Cheadle. It was erected in 1889 in memory of Robert Ockleston, who died in 1888. The fountain is made of sandstone, polished granite, and cast iron. It features an octagonal trough, which is now used as a planter, and includes a small drinking bowl with a gablet. A circular polished granite column rises from an elaborate base and is topped with an enriched capital that bears an inscription and heraldic shields. The fountain originally had a cast iron weather-vane with four light pendants. Robert Ockleston was a notable doctor in Cheadle, and the memorial was previously located at the center of Cheadle Green.
