Description
No 52 Wellington Road North is a commercial premises or showroom dated 1889. It is constructed of red brick with stone dressings and features terracotta decorative details, topped with a tiled roof. The building is rectangular, measuring four by three bays, and has a canted corner entrance. Designed in the Jacobean style, it is a single-storey structure articulated by pilasters that support a sculptured frieze. The doorway has an arched head and fanlight. The front facing Parsonage Street includes one, two, and three-light mullion and transom windows. The Wellington Road front features two large plate-glass windows separated by paired pilasters, although two pilasters have been removed. Additional architectural details include a cornice, a panelled parapet, an aedicule with console supporters, a swan-neck pediment, and the date above the doorway. The building has a tall hipped roof and is very prominently sited. At the time of inspection in February 1987, it was under restoration.
