Description
Christ Church is a large building constructed in 1846, designed by architect W Hayley at a cost of about £7,000, partly funded by the Commissioners. It is made of coursed yellow stone with ashlar dressings and rustication, topped with a Welsh slate roof. The church features an interesting west tower that includes an Early English portal and a west window with plate tracery. The tower has a recessed spire in ashlar, along with a pierced parapet supported by angel corbels and finials. The church comprises a nave and aisles, paired lancets, transepts, and a short lower chancel. Additionally, there is a clock on the tower. Christ Church and Christ Church School are of local interest and visually form a group with the LNWR Warehouse and Engine House located opposite.
