Description
The South Reddish War Memorial features a stepped three-stage square base. The upper stage displays text in relief lead lettering that reads, "ERECTED BY PUBLIC SUBSCRIPTION IN GRATEFUL MEMORY OF / ALL IN SOUTH REDDISH WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES / FOR THEIR COUNTRY IN THE GREAT WAR / 1914 – 1918." Above this is a tall, battered pillar, which has the names of the men and their regiments inscribed in lead lettering on all four sides. The pillar is topped with an entablature that has "PRO PATRIA" in relief lettering on the frieze. This supports a Celtic cross that rises from a rocky base, featuring a relief-carved wreath on each face. The cross itself includes relief rosettes at its center and on each arm, along with ropework carving on the circular element.
