Description
A row of four houses built around 1907 in Worsley. The houses are constructed from snecked stone with applied timber framing and stone slate roofs. They are arranged symmetrically, forming a total of four bays across two storeys. The design reflects a picturesque revival of timber-framed architecture. A pair of doors are centrally located, with additional doors to the extreme left and right, each protected by a lean-to hood. The ground floor is of snecked stone, while the first floor is timber-framed. Projecting gabled crosswings are positioned in the first and fourth bays, with a gabled oriel/dormer window above the second and third bays. The ground floor windows of the crosswings feature three lights with stone mullions, while the remaining ground floor and four first-floor windows have four-light timber mullions, all fitted with leaded lights. Shingles cover the upper portions of the gables, and decorative framing is found below the first-floor window sills. Bargeboards and decorative finials add to the aesthetic. Two stone ridge chimney stacks are present, featuring oversailing courses. The group of houses presents a noteworthy example of the garden suburb movement, arising in response to early de-industrialisation.
