Description

Nos. 51 and 53 Rochdale Road are a pair of semi-detached houses built in 1900 by Edgar Wood. They are constructed of brick with stone dressings and feature a graduated stone slate roof. The houses consist of four bays and two storeys, plus attics, with paired central doorways and a wing to the rear. They have a projecting plinth and stone quoins. The central doors include leaded upper panels and leaded overlights, topped with moulded lintels in the Yorkshire tradition and flat hoods.

The design avoids symmetry by incorporating a single-storey canted bay window in bay 4, contrasting with a two-storey bay window in bay 1 that extends through the overhanging eaves. The windows feature chamfered stone mullions and leaded lights, with transoms on the ground floor, and consist of either two or four lights. The houses also have gabled dormer windows and gable chimney stacks, with leaded casements set below segmental brick arches on the sides and rear.
