Description
Castle Farmhouse and the adjoining barn are a late 17th century laithe-house, with a datestone marked "H K 1691 N W," although much of the structure appears to be from the 18th century. The building is constructed from hammer-dressed watershot stone and features a slate roof. It consists of three bays and two storeys, with the barn located to the left. The farmhouse has quoins and a square-cut door surround that has been inserted into an earlier dressed surround. The windows include a 4-light chamfered mullion window, which is missing two mullions, three 4-light flat-faced mullion windows, and two enlarged window openings from the 20th century. The third bay is of slightly later construction and has a door that is obscured by a 20th-century porch. The barn to the left has a massive lintel over a cart entry, with a square light above it, and a door on the left gable-end. The eaves of the barn have been raised, and the datestone has been relocated into the later masonry.
