Description
Higher Elbut Farmhouse, along with an attached stable and barn, dates from the late 17th century. The building is constructed from coursed stone and features a stone slate roof. It has a two-unit, two-storey layout with a central entrance. To the left is a former stable addition, and to the right is a barn, all covered by one continuous roof. The central door has square-cut jambs and a lintel. To the left of the door is a 4-light window (with one mullion removed), and to the right is a 2-light window with double chamfered mullions and headmoulds. On the first floor, there is another 4-light window (with one mullion removed) and a 2-light flush chamfered mullion window. The axial ridge stack is located to the left. The stable consists of one bay, while the barn has three bays with large opposed cart openings featuring timber lintels; the rear opening has been bricked in. The entire group has been lime-washed.
