Description

Broad Oak Farmhouse is an interesting building comprised of three sections, likely dating to the 18th century on the left, with the other two probably from the earlier 17th century; the outer sections project forward. The farmhouse is constructed of coursed rubble stone. It is two storeys high, and features a single two-light stone mullioned window in each section. The upper window in the central section is a large four-light trans-mullioned wooden casement, likely from the 19th century. Another originally four-light window upstairs was altered with the removal of extra mullions to accommodate sash windows. The ground-floor window on the right-hand side, originally five lights, retains two central mullions. Ground-floor windows on the middle and right-hand sections have drip moulds, and their mouldings are consistent with the date FEB 2/1637 (with the ‘3’ being conjectural) which is inscribed on the right-hand section. Doorways are situated to the right of the central and left-hand sections, and in the gable end of the right-hand section. Each section has a small brick gable chimney, and the roofs are covered in slate.
