Description
The Globe Inn and adjoining butcher's shop is a public house and butcher's shop built in the mid to late 18th century. It is constructed from hammer-dressed stone and features a stone slate roof. Both buildings are two storeys high; the butcher's shop is one room wide and two rooms deep, while the public house is two rooms wide and two rooms deep with a central entrance. There is an 18th-century extension to the right and a brick lean-to at the rear.
The buildings have a rendered plinth and flat-faced mullion windows. The first-floor window of the public house was originally continuous with 19 lights, but now 9 lights have been blocked and 7 mullions removed. There are 5-light windows on either side of the door to the butcher's shop, each having two mullions removed, and an opening at No. 218 that no longer has mullions. The door of No. 220 features a pedimented surround with a moulded architrave, while the door of No. 218 has a plain, square-cut design. Additionally, there is a blocked taking-in door on the left gable, and the rear of No. 220 has a 4-light and a 6-light window, each with two mullions removed.
