Description

The cottages at 144, 145, 146, 147, and 148 Syke Road date from around 1800. They are a group of five double-depth cottages with two storeys and a single bay, arranged in a row. Each cottage has a stone slate roof, except for No. 144, which has 20th-century tiles. They feature stone quoins, square-cut door jambs and lintels. The ground floor windows are generally 3-light, flat-faced mullion windows, though No. 144 has a 4-light window (with two mullions removed). The first floor windows have 5, 6, or 7 lights (some are now blocked), with two mullions removed from No. 144. The cottages have a door on the right side and a chimney stack to the left. According to historical records, they were initially built as back-to-back cottages.
