Description

This is a farmhouse, originally dating to 1663, with subsequent additions and alterations in the 17th, 18th, and late 18th centuries. The construction is of hammer-dressed stone with a slate roof. The original two-bay, two-storey house was later extended with a gabled crosswing to the left and a single-storey wing to the extreme left. A porch has a coped gable with kneelers and a ball finial, featuring a chamfered door surround with an obtuse-angled lintel and a stone slate roof. The front elevation has five and four-light, double-chamfered stone mullion windows with hoodmoulds on the ground floor, an 18th-century inserted door (now No. 3), and five and two-light chamfered mullion windows on the first floor. The crosswing features a door with a chamfered surround, obtuse-angled lintel, and recessed spandrels, alongside four and three-light chamfered mullion windows. The left wing is now used as a garage. Gable and ridge chimney stacks are present. The rear elevation is rendered and incorporates one, two, and three-light chamfered mullion windows, and a five-light, double-chamfered house-part window. Inscribed door lintels provide dates: “M 1663,” “IEM 1693” (John Milne), “IM 1725,” “IM 1718,” and “IM 1795.”
