Description

This is a flagstone boundary wall located on the east side of the footpath from Turnhill Road and Crompton Avenue in Rochdale. It dates from the early to mid-19th century and is constructed of large, fissile sandstone flags that are set into the ground. The flags are connected at mid-flag level with circular metal plates that are bolted together. The wall stands approximately 1.75 metres tall, with some flags reaching widths of up to 2 metres. It stretches for about 160 metres and serves as a prominent and complete example of this type of wall.
