Description
Lower Brownhill House is a late 18th-century house located on Brownhill Lane in Saddleworth. It is constructed of hammer-dressed watershot stone and features a graduated stone slate roof. The house has three storeys and is designed with a single and double-depth layout, consisting of two bays.
The ground floor includes a bay window, a conservatory, and a small 20th-century extension. The first bay has paired 19th-century sash windows on the upper floors, which replaced earlier mullioned windows. The second bay features 6-light recessed flat-faced stone mullion windows on the upper floors. To the left gable, there is a 19th-century porch with a stair window above it. The right side has 2-light gable windows and a small wing.
At the rear, the house retains original leaded panes in its 6 and 3-light mullion windows. Many alterations to the original structure were made by John Rooth, a canal agent, around 1810.
