Description
Top Green Hill Farmhouse and adjoining barn is a farmhouse dating from the mid to late 17th century, possibly around 1649. The building is constructed of squared rubble with a slate roof on the house, an asbestos roof on the barn, and graduated stone slate on the rear wing, which has been largely rebuilt in brick. The farmhouse features a 2-unit plan with two storeys and the barn is attached to the right.
There are doors on the left and right with square-cut stone surrounds, and the left door has a flat hood above it. The ground floor has 4-light double-chamfered stone mullion windows, all under a continuous hood, while the first floor features a 3-light chamfered mullion window and a later flat-faced mullion window where the mullions have been removed. There is a blocked 1-light opening above the door, which is said to contain a datestone.
The rear wing includes 2 and 4-light double-chamfered mullion windows and was once a separate cottage. The barn has opposed cart entries that are now blocked and features a 20th-century roof structure. Inside, the principal rooms have chamfered beams, some of which have ogee run-out stops.
