Description

A house and former smithy dating to the 1720s, with alterations made in the late 18th century and 20th century. The building is constructed of hammer-dressed watershot stone with a graduated stone slate roof. It comprises a two-unit house and a single-storey wing to the left, which was formerly the forge. The two-floor front elevation has three bays, featuring a two-light recessed window with chamfered cavetto-moulded stone mullions on the ground floor, and similar four- and three-light windows above. A two-light recessed flat-faced stone mullion window is also present. A blocked doorway to the first floor indicates a later raising of the floor level in the late 18th century. A 20th-century porch has been added to the left wing. The rear elevation exhibits a mix of two-, four-, and three-light windows with cavetto-moulded mullions, along with a twelve-light recessed flat-faced mullion workshop window to the upper floor. The gable features two two-light windows and blocked attic lights, and incorporates a chimney stack.
